1955 Ford Consul Estate MK1

Beginning life in 1955 as a saloon (as all Consul Estate cars did), the car was purchased by Dudley Bailey, a somewhat renowned owner within the classic Ford circle. Having been searching for the very best example he could find, he discovered SGF832 having recently been given a comprehensive restoration to exacting standards. Benefitting from the larger and more powerful 1703cc engine from the MKII, a MKIII differential, and both engine and gearbox having been fully rebuilt, the car was found to be more than comfortable keeping up with modern traffic and motorway cruising.

Newly acquired, the car was sent to the master coach builder, James Clark, who set about creating an exact replica of the extremely rare Farnham Estate Car built by Abbotts Coachbuilders back in 1955. The approach taken was one of exactness and attention to detail. Thank to James’ amazing skill, dedication and attention to detail, the car we have here today can only be described as astounding, with a photographic record of the project accompanying the car.

So pleased was Dudley with the finished car, he then commissioned James to produce a second car based on a six cylinder Zodiac, making this one of only two cars ever built.

The car is presented in its original colours of Dorchester Grey with a newly-fitted concours quality red leather interior and headlining, all adorned with exceptional brightwork. It also sports the original period extras of an external sun visor and reversing light.

With a corrosion-free chassis, floors, and original jacking points, the car is as good underneath as it is on top.

The car presents beautifully, and as if to labour the point, it recently won a regional Concours medal.

With newly refurbished brakes, new tyres, and hidden electronic ignition this car’s proven to be very reliable. On the move, it drives without fault and is a joy to drive. With smooth gear-changes, direct steering and sitting on that large bench seat behind the vintage chrome dials and steering wheel, you’ll soon find yourself in bygone era of enjoyable motoring and garnering attention wherever you go.

The car will be supplied with its original Ford Owner's Manual, a folder of history which details the work completed along with photos of the project. It will be given a new no-advisory MOT and serviced prior to purchase. In addition to this, it will be further subjected to our rigorous Pre-Delivery Inspection, and sold with a 12-month market-leading extendable warranty.
