1989 (G) Mercedes-Benz C Class 260 E

This Mercedes 260E Saloon is a rare find indeed, with only one owner from new, and a monumental history file that includes a stamped service book with 33 stamps, the last one being in 2022 when the owner’s age excluded him from driving any further.

This particular 1989 W124 was delivered new by Mercedes Colindale, London to Its one and only owner, and is finished in Blue Black Metallic with grey cloth seats. The car is highly specified with air-conditioning, central locking, electric tilt/ slide sunroof, automatic transmission, headrests in rear, folding armrest front, electric windows front and rear, heat insulating glass and headlamp wash/ wipe. The original factory supplied Blaupunkt stereo is still present and working.

The paintwork belies both its age and mileage. The windscreen is damage free. The wheel trims present well and the matching tyres have plenty of tread left. Although not unsightly or obvious, there is one small bubble on the off-side front wheel arch that would be easily remedied with a smart repair at little cost. Overall, this is one very sharp car that would be hard to better.

Move to the interior and the amazing standard of this car continues. The seats are perfect in both the front and the back. All buttons and electrics are in full working order, there is no damage to the wooden veneers and even the ashtrays remain unused.

The underside of the car is in equally good condition as can be evidenced by the car’s very clean MOT history, with there never having been any mention of corrosion in its 34 years, largely down to its owner always keeping the car garaged and extremely well maintained.

The engine bay is truly a sight to behold for such an old car. The word ‘clean’ is often used, but this engine bay is beyond that.

Open the boot and lift the boot floor, and all items supplied with the car when new are there to see.

On the move, the car performs just as it did the day it was new - typical for this era of Mercedes, it moves along gracefully with smooth gear shifts, free of any rattles or untoward noises, cosseted from the outside world. It doesn’t disappoint.

When it comes to the history file, this car excels. To say it is vast is an understatement - it’s monumental! Literally every document ever written about the car is present, from the car’s original purchase invoice to faxes between the supplying dealer and the owner.
