1987 (D) Mercedes-Benz SL Series 500 SL

The virtues of a Mercedes SL are now known to anyone who has even the slightest interest in cars - but most have a particular favourite, and more often than not, it tends to be the R107 versions that graced our television sets during the 1980's as the car of choice for The Ewings in Dallas, not to mention Dempsey and Makepeace, Hart to Hart and many more iconic shows.

They became known as the 'mistress car', as they were often given as gifts to the 'other woman'. Nowadays, they're a sought-after classic that can be used every day - one which offers strong investment potential due to its reliability, bullet-proof build quality, its 2-plus-2 configuration, and its removable hardtop giving it an unparalleled versatility compared to other classic offerings.

This stunning Mercedes 500SL R107 is presented in Glacier White with a full Navy Blue leather interior, complimentary Navy Blue soft-top, and removable Hard-Top. It's a car we have sold previously and one that we're proud to be able to offer for sale again.

Originally delivered by Derwent Vehicles of Leeds, the first owner took delivery of the car on New Year's Day 1987 and registered it as being owned by his photographic company. Some years later he changed the V5 into his own name and remained the owner of the car until 2019, when we sold the car to its current owner - so in essence, the car has only ever had two owners from new, albeit that the V5 shows 3.

It is also the most sought-after of the R107 models (post-1986 facelift), so the car benefits from a galvanised body and panels, improved suspension and brakes, plus a switchable sports/economy gearbox.

The car's condition belies its warranted 96,500 miles. The bodywork is sublime and shows no signs of corrosion or damage, the engine bay presents as it should, the underside is particularly well preserved and the interior shows only a mild patina - only serving to add to the car's originality and how well this car has been cared for by its two users.

Factory options include 15" OE Alloy Wheels, ABS, Central Locking, Chrome Door Handles, Cruise Control, Electric Mirrors, Rear Spoiler, Removable Hard-Top and Diffuser Blade.

Its Service History is extensive, having been serviced a total of 15 times up until 2019 when the car showed 86k miles, equating to an average service interval of every 6k miles, and ALL completed by the same Mercedes Benz Main Dealer in Leeds.

Since then, the car has covered only 10k miles, and has been serviced another 3 times, with the last 2 services being completed by ourselves. The very latest service was only recently completed, and it has a new MOT with no advisories ensuring full peace-of-mind for the new owner's enjoyment of this iconic car.
